Many of our customers, suppliers and other partners may not be aware of our ongoing commitment to helping other people. Yet here at SMH, charity and local community support is a significant part of our culture, vision and values.

Last year SMH donated an impressive £22,000 to UK charities through a variety of fundraising activities.

The key charity that we dedicate our fundraising to each year is Macmillan Cancer Support UK and we were delighted to be able to donate an impressive £11,000 to the charity last year.

Each SMH depot also supports a second local charity of their choice.

Last year, the staff in Worcester raised £5,300 for the Midlands Air Ambulance, whilst the team in Quedgeley raised £2,077 for the Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy unit in Gloucester. SMH employees in Bolton raised £2,113 for Daytrippers, a charity providing days out for disadvantaged children and their families. And the staff based in Bedford raised £1,600 for Cransley Hospice, providing care and expert help for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Our enthusiasm for fundraising continues in 2017. Since the start of 2017, £3,000 has been raised for local charities through dress down Fridays at the Worcester and Gloucester sites; and in June, five SMH colleagues took on the London to Brighton cycle challenge and raised £1,330 for MacMillan.

What’s more, SMH has already made £10,000 worth of donations to support other local causes including a £5,000 donation to support the refurbishment of a new community coffee shop in Norton Parish hall and a £3,000 donation to Norton Juxta Kempsey primary school to support the development of a memorial garden.

Sarah Diston, Regional Fundraising Manager for Macmillan said, “Since 2003, SMH has raised almost £74,000 for Macmillan, which is absolutely amazing. The money raised by SMH could pay for a Macmillan nurse for 18 months. We rely on donations and every penny really can make a difference. Thanks to the very generous support of SMH Fleet Solutions, we are now able to reach so many more people living with cancer. SMH’s support is invaluable and their fundraising has been remarkable.”
